Review: Benefit They're Real Tinted Primer

I received this exciting product as a sample through my subscription to Elle UK magazine, and it came with the December issue. Whilst I love Benefit as a brand, I was bewildered as to what the point of an eyelash primer is?! However, I was extremely impressed.

First of all, Benefit are owned by the parent company Estee Lauder. Any Estee Lauder fan will know they recently launched their own eyelash primer with Kendall Jenner as the face, called 'The Little Black Primer', retailing at £20.00. I can't help but wonder if they are similar in formulation?

As you can see, they have completely different wands but are made by the same company.

Currently the Benefit They're Real Tinted Primer is not sold on the Benefit UK website so I am not sure what the RRP is.

I should make it clear now that I don't believe in eyelash primers. Your eyelashes do not need to be 'primed' before application of mascara. A good curl with a decent eyelash curler and a good mascara is all you need. I feel very strongly that using an eyelash primer is just that extra bit of faff in the morning and also a waste of money.

Anyways, I expected to hate this product but ended up loving it. HOWEVER, what I realised was what I loved about it wasn't that it was a good primer, but that it was exactly the same as the Benefit They're Real Mascara, but in brown rather than black. The brush is the same, the formulation feels the same, the finish is the same. When I put my usual mascara on top (Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme) it had almost no effect; the primer dried very quickly and the mascara on top just made the look more clumpy.

Exactly the same brush!

My lashes with just the primer on.

I love the Benefit They're Real Mascara. Buy that, but don't buy the silly primer. You don't need it.

If you want a sample of the primer go out and grab a copy of Elle now!

PS hope you're all keeping warm! England is so bloody cold right now so this hat my Mum gave me is an essential
